Haiku 2

I recently “re-discovered” Haiku. And lately I have taken the time to study and practice writing my own Haiku. It is so simple, yet so difficult. There is the syllable counting and the search for the perfect cutting – not to mention the craving for yugen. Yes, Haiku is difficult.

I think I found yugen in the second Haiku below…

Mist over water
Loud croaking breaks the silence
Webbed digits spring

Grey feathers in flight
Death waits with the killing gas –
No more geese fly low

Hi Teresa - I can't believe you lost your book...it has to be in the hotel room, doesn't it??

Yugen = Japanese term for beauty that suggests mystery, depth and a tinge of sadness. Do you get the sadness of my poem?

I'm glad to hear you finally got your house! When's the housewarming party?!

yes, i get the sadness. no, the book, just a notepad really, disappeared at the park. i can`t helpt but wonder if one of the homeless men in the area took it although i hate to assume that. there were a few sitting around, i put the book down, or so i thought, and when i went back to the bench it was gone. oh well. if they took it they need it more than i.

have a great weekend.

I can't do Haiku. A blogger friend has Haiku once a week. I still don't get it though. I tried studying about it in my English classes at mjc, but still couldn't get it. You seem to have gotten it though. I once wrote that and the instructor said...ahem. Tee hee. oh well. have a great weekend.

Teresa - I hope your notebook turn up!

Hi Glo! It's the spirit of your Haiku that counts. And why am I not surprised that you wrote about a dog?? I hope you have a great weekend too!
